Literacy Narrative
Growing up I was
immediately immersed in becoming literate. Each night before bed my mom or dad
would read me bedtime stories like “Goodnight Moon” “Go Dogs Go” and “One fish
two fish red fish blue fish” just like countless other parents did for their own
children. Being read to was a relaxing experience before bed, it also developed
my imagination and had me constantly asking questions.
I remember learning how to
read in kindergarten. There is nothing more exciting than being able to read
and write on your own. Reading and writing open up countless doors for
learning, imagination, and creativity. I could finally process things in my
mind that I previously never could have. In grade school I started getting into
the Matt Christopher sports books along with the “Magic Tree” house reading
series. These books really grabbed my attention because of the realistic
characters and the adventures these stories provided to me.
I have come
along way in my process of becoming literate and an all around educated person.
Retracing my footsteps back to my earliest memories of literacy is a fun and
somewhat scary thing to think about. It seems like yesterday that I was reading
easy chapter books for fun. Time truly does fly!
