I. Rhetorical Overview of
the Article
1. The author is trying to prove
a point that writing has evolved as technology has changed. It is interesting
to see the change that has happened in such a short period of time with
technology and the changes that have occurred with the writing process.
2a. The author is speaking to
anyone that has implanted new ways to write using new technology. Some sections
of this article relate to different types of writers depending on what
technology they are more comfortable writing with.
3. The thesis or argument
that Baron is writing about is that writing and writing styles have evolved
with technology. Baron states, “We assume that writing was invented to
transcribe speech, but that is not strictly correct”.
II. Summary
This article is showing how
advances in technology have influenced writing; Baron believes that the
computer has played a large role in the way we write today. He shows how some
people like writing with by hand with a pencil or a pen and others prefer
typing on the computer. Baron talks about how technology has made writing an
easier process. He also explains how sharing writing is now easier than ever
thanks to the Internet.

1. Barons’ article relates
to the text web, it says “the computer is a gateway to literacy” which means it
makes finding other text easier through the web. When new writing technology
comes out it relates to a discourse community of people that use technology and
read through the Internet, smart phone, computers, etc. technology, a discourse
community. Threau was a sponsor so it relates to Malcom x as well.
Personal Reflection
1. Technology has played a
large role in how my generation of people has been raised. The Internet is virtually
available anywhere and getting and retrieving information is now easier than
ever. I enjoyed this article because it directly relates to my life.
2. I liked this article and
through it was very informative. Nothing really confused me.
