Proposal

Proposal: Writing isn't an effective way of communicating emotion

Reason: In writing it is hard to display emotion like you can when you are speaking. When speaking you can talk with different tones that could help influence someones decision. Listening is an all around easier task than actually sitting down and reading something. Therefore I believe that persuasive speaking is much more effective than persuasive writing.

Ethos(speaker credibility) Pathos (emotion)
Personae (deal with the author)
The writers voice in papers

  1. Dominic, I'm wondering, in your estimation, how people come to know when a "complete point" is made, or when the paper makes sense for a specific audience, or what techniques engage a reader? Does a person learn these things or does it just come naturally?

It sounds like you may be saying that "rules" such as the 5-paragraph essay are not necessary for a good essay, or that these types of rules may not need to be taught -- give this a little more thought and try to sharpen the focus a bit!
