Villanueva, Victor. "Memoria' is a Friend of Ours: On the Discourse of Color." College English 67.1.

I. Summary:

In this article, "Memoria Is a Friend of Ours: On the Discourse of Color" by Victor Villanueva, he focuses on memoria, which are memories and ideals from the past. Victor gives many examples as to how ideal and memories have been passed down from generation to generation throughout the centuries. He talks about people with different colored and how they should not feel any less pride in their ethnicity than anyone else from any other race.
II. Chart:

This is quote is important because the author is trying to show that people of other races to be proud of who they are and how they should never forget where they came from and their roots.
“The plot line might not have been worked out, but this was the impulse nevertheless-to keep alive the memory of assimilation denied, a truism turned to myth, to try to hold on to, maybe even to regain, that which has been lost of the road to assimilation.”
This quote is important because the author is trying to explain how academic discourse is all logic based.
"Academic discourse is cognitively powerful! But the cognitive alone is insufficient. it can be strong for logas. It can be strong for ethos. But it is very weak in pathos."
This quote shows a good example of how sponsors have influenced the stories and memories they have when she said formed through the generations. I like how it shows sponsors in this discourse community here.
“All have written about the connection between narratives by people of color and the need to reclaim the memory, memory of an identity in formation and constant reformation, the need to reclaim a memory of an identity as formed through the generations.”
This quote shows that memoria is an older style of writing that people no longer use. By bringing back your past through rhetorical means is one of the best ways you can find yourself and connect with others.

"Memoria was the mother of Muses, the most important of the rhetorical offices."

I like this quote because it starts off with being an American, and I can relate to this. It also tells of a discourse in which he belongs and why he belongs to this community. I think its good how a large discourse is shown

"I am an American, an academic, a person of color- an organically grown traditional intellectual, containing both of Gramsci's intellectual formations, yet not quite his new ineffectual."

This relates to the article about how tone and posture when speaking is very important. I think this relates a lot in this type of writing because it is a memory that can be told as a story.
“When delivery is still there, it’s a matter of voice.”
